How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack each plastic agitator in a sturdy box with foam-in-place or molded inserts to protect the hub/spline and paddles; add dividers for multi-pack cartons.
- Use 32 ECT or 200# test cartons at minimum; upgrade to double-wall if cartons will be stacked or shipped via cross-dock networks with higher compression risk.
- Palletize cartons on a 40x48 footprint with no overhang; limit stack height to prevent crush on plastic fins and mark “Do Not Stack” if using single-wall cartons.
- Print the BOL with NMFC 124005 and “Class 300 – Boxed” to avoid reclass, and photograph packed contents before sealing to support claims prevention.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 300 simplifies rating and quoting regardless of density, reducing time spent on calculations and reweigh disputes.
- Correct NMFC code on the BOL cuts the risk of costly reclass charges and accelerates carrier acceptance in LTL networks.
- Purpose-built box and insert packaging lowers breakage on delicate plastic fins and hubs, reducing claims and return handling costs.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines paperwork and mode selection, enabling faster tendering and broader carrier options.
