How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. List NMFC 124430 and Class 150 on the BOL, note packaging as boxes, and specify type (electric or gas) with unit count, e.g., “4 boxed gas handheld blowers.”
  2. For gas-engine models, drain fuel, vent the tank to purge vapors, cap lines, and cushion the carburetor and muffler. Add “dry for transport” on the carton.
  3. For electric units, immobilize cords and housings with foam or corner blocks. If shipping lithium batteries separately per carrier policy, mark each box accordingly.
  4. Use double‑wall cartons and block the nozzle and handle to prevent flexing. Palletize multiple boxes: keep within pallet footprint, strap twice, and wrap with orientation arrows.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Fixed Class 150 eliminates density disputes, speeding quotes and reducing reclass fees for seasonal power equipment moves.
  • Boxed packaging standardizes dimensions, improving stackability and lowering damage rates versus irregular, uncartoned tools.
  • Non-hazardous classification streamlines paperwork and avoids hazmat surcharges when units are shipped dry and properly prepared.
  • Clear NMFC mapping supports retailers, landscapers, and OEMs with predictable LTL budgeting and simpler routing across carrier networks.
