How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Select packaging to match risk: heavy-duty boxes for compact units, or wood crates for machines with controls or larger roll cassettes. Block and brace so the roll-media spools cannot unwind in transit.
- Cap and cushion air inlets/outlets and any sensor ports. Bag the unit to keep moisture and dust off renewable media, and add desiccants when shipping through humid lanes.
- Mount the box or crate to a pallet with no overhang, then strap and stretch-wrap. Mark orientation arrows and “This Side Up” to keep the roll mechanism stable; choose “Do Not Stack” if the media housing could deform.
- Note NMFC 124564 and Class 125 on the BOL. Place manuals and spare rolls in a separate inner carton to prevent abrasion against the machine frame.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable LTL pricing with fixed Class 125—no density calculations or re-bills for mixed specs.
- Reduced claims: proper bracing protects roll-media cartridges and drive components, lowering downtime on install.
- Non-hazardous classification streamlines tendering and avoids hazmat fees or special paperwork.
- Accurate packaging (boxes or crates) minimizes inspections, reclass risks, and accessorials, improving transit times and carrier acceptance.
