How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Use rigid skids or crates with internal blocking to immobilize tanks, cells, impellers, and gearboxes; mark center of gravity and keep lift points clear.
- Drain and clean any wet-end components, cap inlet/outlet ports, and wrap with VCI or moisture barrier to prevent corrosion during LTL transit.
- Bundle small parts—stators, dart valves, instrumentation—in labeled cartons inside the crate; avoid loose fill and use foam-in-place or cut-to-fit dunnage.
- Book at NMFC 125360, Class 92.5, and list piece count and crate dimensions on the BOL to prevent reclass or inspection delays.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 92.5 simplifies quoting and minimizes reclass risk versus density-rated items.
- Single item covers full machines and replacement parts, enabling consolidated shipments and lower per-unit freight spend.
- Non-hazardous classification avoids hazmat surcharges and expands carrier options for faster routing.
- Robust crating guidance reduces transit damage on high-value process equipment, protecting margins and warranty exposure.
