How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List the item clearly on the BOL: “Grizzlies, stationary ore screens, NMFC 125400, Class 92.5, non-haz,” including piece count and handling unit (e.g., 1 crated frame on skid).
- Build a heavy skid or steel cradle, block under crossbars, and band with steel strapping. Add edge protectors, cap sharp bar ends, and place loose guards/bolts in a labeled parts crate.
- Confirm forklift tine clearance and center of gravity; mark lift points. For larger decks (e.g., 8' x 10'), use LTL flatbed or partial and request tarps if shipping open-deck.
- Provide exact L x W x H and weight on paperwork, attach photos of the secured screen, and apply “Do Not Stack” if bar deformation is a risk.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Single fixed Class 92.5 simplifies rating, reducing reclass disputes and unexpected invoice adjustments.
- Faster quoting and routing since carriers recognize the Machinery Group listing for stationary ore screens.
- Non-hazardous status expands carrier options and cuts special documentation, shortening lead times.
- Proper crating and bracing lower claim risk on welded frames, protecting quarry and mine uptime.
