How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Mount the ore sizer to a rigid skid and through-bolt the frame; cross-brace the crate and immobilize rotor assemblies to prevent internal shift.
- Mark center of gravity and all lift points; include a simple rigging plan so terminals can use forklifts or cranes safely during cross-dock transfers.
- List “Ore Sizers NMFC 125500, Class 100” on the BOL; density is not required. Add serial numbers, crate count, and any removable parts on a packing list.
- Seal gearboxes and oil ports, drain excess fluids to avoid drips, and wrap motors/control panels with VCI or shrink film plus desiccant for moisture control.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing with fixed Class 100 eliminates density disputes and speeds up quoting across lanes.
- Correct NMFC use reduces reclass fees, rebills, and delays from inspections at LTL terminals.
- Engineered skids and bracing lower damage risk, protecting high-value mining assets and reducing claims.
- Properly skidded units qualify for standard LTL or volume LTL, often avoiding costly flatbed minimums.
