How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List NMFC 125720 and Class 60 on the BOL; describe clearly, e.g., “Stamp mill cams/dies, steel parts, palletized,” and include piece count and total weight.
- Secure cams, dies, and mortar blocks to hardwood skids with steel banding and edge protectors; add 4‑way forklift runners to handle concentrated weight safely.
- Crate small shoes, stems, and tappets inside corrugated cartons, fill voids with blocking, and mark center of gravity to prevent tip‑overs in transit.
- Coat machined faces with rust inhibitor and wrap with VCI or oil paper; cap threaded stems and cushion between layers with plywood dunnage.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 60 rating simplifies pricing and avoids density disputes, reducing reclass and reweigh fees.
- Consolidate mixed stamp mill parts on one pallet under the same class to hit better LTL rate tiers and lower handling costs.
- Non‑hazardous designation broadens carrier options and typically removes hazmat surcharges for more competitive quotes.
- Proper blocking and bracing of heavy, irregular steel parts reduces claim risk and downtime for mines and aggregate plants.
