How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Prep each mower: drain fuel and oil, cap lines, and disconnect batteries; secure blade guards or fold handles on push units.
- Pack for fork handling: strap to a skid or fully crate; chock wheels and lock steering on ride-on or zero‑turn models to prevent roll.
- Remove loose accessories (bags, chargers, keys) and bag small parts; attach them to the frame or place inside the crate to avoid loss.
- Describe clearly on the BOL: mower type (push, ride‑on, zero‑turn), engine installed or removed, packaging (pallet/crate), and accurate weight and dimensions.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Reduce reclass risk by using the NOI mower description and noting engine status and packaging exactly as shipped.
- Lower damage claims with rigid crating, wheel chocks, and blade protection; fewer exceptions means faster settlements and fewer reshipments.
- Improve handling speed and cut accessorials by making freight forklift‑ready and single‑piece where possible.
- Stabilize seasonal costs by consolidating multiple mowers per skid or crate and booking ahead of peak landscaping demand.
