How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Secure the mill to a solid pallet or steel skid with through-bolts and blocking; add cross-bracing and shrink-wrap to minimize vibration during LTL transit.
- Remove or crate accessories (hoppers, guards, belts) separately, and lock or block the rotor. Mark lift points and apply “Keep Upright/Do Not Stack” labels.
- Drain lubricants where possible, cap ports, and add drip protection to avoid leaks. Cover intakes and discharge chutes to prevent contamination.
- List “NMFC 126020 – Meal Grinding Mills, Class 85” on the BOL with accurate weight and dimensions to avoid reclass fees and delivery delays.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
