How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm the correct sub-item: full seed cleaner vs separate boll/sand reels or screens, then choose the applicable class within 92.5–125 for packaged freight.
- Package on a pallet or in a wood crate; cap screen edges with plywood, block reels to stop rolling, and band frames to the skid with corner boards.
- Record exact piece count, dimensions, and weight on the BOL; mark center of gravity and add “Do Not Stack” if screens or frames could deform under load.
- For repairs or parts returns, consider shipping reels or screens separately when practical and request quotes for each applicable class to compare LTL rates.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Accurate class selection minimizes reclass fees and protects margins on seasonal ag-processing shipments.
- Purposeful crating for delicate screens and reels reduces transit damage, lowering claims and downtime.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines booking and avoids hazmat-related accessorials or carrier restrictions.
- Right-sized packages and palletization improve trailer cube efficiency, often unlocking better LTL pricing.
