How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Choose rigid cartons sized to the motor assembly and add dense foam end-caps so gearboxes and shafts can’t punch through during transit.
- Place control boards, remotes, and photo-eyes in anti-static bags, then use inner cartons and void fill so brackets and hardware won’t abrade wiring.
- For multi-carton kits, label 1 of 3, 2 of 3, etc., record serial numbers on the BOL, and bundle cartons with stretch wrap if handled together.
- State “Gate Operators/Openers, in boxes — NMFC 126159” on paperwork to prevent reclass, and confirm non-hazmat on carrier profiles.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 70 removes density guesswork and helps avoid costly reclass charges on mixed metal/electronic kits.
- Predictable rating streamlines quoting for installers, fence contractors, and distributors managing tight project margins.
- Boxed packaging aligns with carrier handling requirements, reducing damage risk to motors, control heads, and sensors.
- Clear NMFC linkage accelerates billing and audits, cutting admin time and improving cash flow on recurring LTL moves.
