How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List NMFC 126560, Class 65 on the BOL and itemize contents clearly (e.g., 1 hammer head, 2 rams, 4 clamps) to prevent reclass and speed dock handling.
- Block and band heavy hammers to a stout skid; protect striking faces and threads with guards. Crate small parts like tie rods, grips, and heads; cap hydraulic ports and drain residual oil.
- Match equipment to the load: flatbed for large driver hammers (3,000–8,000 lb) with chains and edge protectors, or dry van for crated components. Request liftgate or crane if on-site gear is limited.
- Mark center of gravity, keep profiles low for LTL, and avoid overhang. Use spacers between side straps to prevent rub damage and add Do Not Stack cones if packaging requires.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable costs with fixed Class 65—no density math, fewer reclass fees, and cleaner quotes for project bids.
- Better protection for precision surfaces and hydraulic parts reduces claims, preventing costly downtime on piling schedules.
- Simplified paperwork: ship mixed components (cylinders, clamps, rams, tie rods) under one NMFC, accelerating booking and handling.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and speeds approvals for deliveries to job sites, yards, and marine projects.
