Classification Details

NMFC Description Class
126880.00 Shafting Pulleys or Sheaves, see Note, item 126882; Pulley Laggings, wooden; or Shaft Collars or Shaft Couplings other than clutch couplings:
126880.01 Loose, if weighing each less than 25 pounds 77.5
126880.02 Loose, if weighing each 25 pounds or over, or in packages 65

Notes

Note 126882: NOTE-Grooves of loose V-belt sheaves must be protected by lagging other than corrugated fiberboard.

How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Confirm the part type fits this item: shaft pulleys or sheaves (see Note 126882), wooden pulley laggings, or shaft collars/couplings—excluding clutch couplings.
  2. Select packaging by condition and size: palletize as packages or ship unitized loose with blocks. Wrap machined bores, cap keyways, and use VCI to prevent rust.
  3. Record actual weight per unit for the weight-based class. If your shipment meets the heavier break, you may qualify for the lower class within 65–77.5.
  4. Stabilize odd shapes: cradle heavy sheaves with timber wedges and through-bolts; bundle wooden laggings square with edge protectors; band collars in layers to avoid rolling.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Leverage weight breaks to reach Class 65 when possible, cutting LTL spend versus the higher class 77.5.
  • Unified code for multiple motion components simplifies quoting and reduces reclass exposure on mixed-part pallets.
  • Damage prevention on faces and bores lowers claim risk and avoids costly reshipments and linehaul delays.
  • Non-hazmat status broadens carrier options and speeds tendering for machinery supply chains.
