How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Identify the press type (hydraulic, mechanical, arbor) and list attachments; secure or remove loose tooling before packing.
- Drain fluids and cap hydraulic lines; lock the ram and guard pinch points to prevent movement in transit.
- Place the frame on a heavy skid, block the base and COG, and band or bolt to the pallet; crate when height or protrusions risk impact.
- Provide accurate weight, overall dimensions, and photos to quote LTL under NMFC 127200; note lift points and any rigging needs.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Using the correct NOI item reduces reclass fees and surprise rate adjustments compared to guessing a generic machinery class.
- Proper blocking, banding, and crating protects bed/ram alignment, cutting claim risk and downtime for shops that need quick installs.
- Consolidating accessories (pedestals, guards, pumps) under one shipment reduces handling charges and simplifies receiving.
- Sharing rigging details up front minimizes liftgate or waiting-time accessorials and speeds pickup at tight industrial sites.
