Note 128272: NOTE-Applies on air registers or parts thereof for regulating air supply in oil burning furnaces.
How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Verify the listing fits your parts by checking NMFC Note at item 128272, especially for air burner housings, heads, or air tubes made of iron or steel.
- Choose crates for heavy castings or assemblies (e.g., burner housings, blower plates) and use boxes only for smaller, well-cushioned components.
- Protect metal surfaces from corrosion with VCI wrap or oil, cap threaded ports and nozzles, and block/bracket parts inside the crate to prevent movement.
- Provide accurate piece count and packaging type (box or crate) on the BOL; request liftgate or limited access services in advance for bulky crated units.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Class 85 provides predictable LTL rating for iron/steel burner parts, reducing reclass disputes and unexpected charges.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines booking and avoids hazmat fees, accelerating dock-to-dock cycle time.
- Purpose-built crating minimizes damage on dense metal components, lowering claims risk and replacement costs.
- Simple, non-density classification cuts quoting time and helps standardize rate negotiations across suppliers.
