How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Rate and tender at Class 70. On the BOL, describe as industrial steel floor platform scale, not hand portable, on pallet or lift-truck skid.
- Choose a pallet or skid that matches the deck footprint; block under the frame, then band with steel/poly strapping and use edge protectors to prevent strap damage.
- Keep the deck level and protected. Pad load cells, junction box, and cabling; remove any detachable indicators and ship them boxed and strapped to the same pallet.
- Mind center of gravity on the heavy steel deck. Fork from the long side, avoid overhang, and stabilize with stretch wrap plus two cross-bands.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 70 removes density calculations, speeding quotes and carrier selection.
- Robust palletization guidance reduces load cell damage, cutting claims and repair downtime.
- Precise BOL wording minimizes reclass/reweigh fees, keeping invoices predictable.
- Non-hazardous Machinery Group freight streamlines carrier acceptance and transit planning.
