How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List NMFC 129540, Class 125, and “automatic scale indicators—boxed” on the BOL to prevent reclass and speed carrier processing.
- Use anti-static bags and dense foam blocking inside sturdy cartons; cap or pad connectors and display bezels to avoid impact damage.
- If shipping multiples, place cartons on a 40×48 pallet, no overhang; add corner boards and stretch wrap with two cross-bands for stability.
- Record true scale weight per carton and the pallet total; dimensions are optional for class but help with space planning and avoiding cubic rules.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 125 rating enables predictable LTL quotes and reduces costly reclassification disputes.
- Non-hazardous electronics move on standard service lanes, cutting hazmat fees and paperwork delays.
- Boxed packaging aligns with standard handling, minimizing accessorials and lowering claims risk for sensitive instruments.
- Accurate NMFC usage and consolidated palletizing shorten dock times, improving on-time performance and reducing detention.
