Note 129661: NOTE-Applies on those articles named equipped with a cutting or hoeing head such as a chain saw, circular saw, cutting blade or pruning blade or shear.
How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- State NMFC 129660 on the BOL and specify form: pole attached or detached, cutting/hoeing head only, or engine with drive shaft housing—always noted as boxed.
- Pack in heavy-wall corrugated boxes; guard blades/chains, cap pole ends, and immobilize heads with foam or inserts to stop punctures and shifting.
- Manage length to avoid surcharges: use telescoping poles or diagonal packing to keep cartons under common LTL thresholds for long freight.
- Ship powered units dry and protected: no fuel or oil installed, pad trigger handles, wrap shafts, and bag spare heads or hardware inside the box.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Single item covers heads, poles, and engine assemblies—simplifies SKU mapping and speeds quotes under a fixed Class 150.
- No density calculation required, reducing reclass disputes and unexpected billing adjustments.
- Boxed packaging aligns with carrier handling rules, lowering damage rates and chargebacks for punctures or protrusions.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and helps secure standard LTL pricing and faster tender acceptance.
