How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Match packaging to size: double‑wall boxes for benchtop sealers; sturdy wood crates for floor units or shrink tunnels. Add foam blocking to protect seal bars and heaters.
  2. Immobilize moving parts before boxing: strap or lock sealing arms, tape doors and guards, bag bolts and feet, and place accessories in a labeled inner box in the crate.
  3. Build a solid base: mount the crate on skids with 4‑way forklift entry, brace the frame inside, and mark “Do Not Clamp” plus center‑of‑gravity arrows to prevent distortion.
  4. Document clearly on the BOL: list model/serial, dimensions and weight, configuration (sealer, tunnel, sleeve wrapper), and declare NMFC 130110, Class 125 for rating.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Predictable costs with fixed Class 125, reducing reclass disputes and surprise adjustment fees on packaging machinery.
  • Single tariff coverage for sealers, shrink tunnels, and sleeve wrappers simplifies quoting across multiple SKUs and sites.
  • Crate/box requirement supports internal bracing, cutting claims from bent seal bars, cracked tunnel housings, and damaged control panels.
  • Non‑hazardous status speeds carrier acceptance and scheduling, improving LTL tendering and transit reliability.
