How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Purge coatings and solvents from the pump, lock the trigger, cap fluid ports, and coil the hose and spray gun separately bagged inside the box; chock or immobilize wheels and pad the frame.
- Use a double-wall box with foam-in-place or molded inserts around the motor and pump. Keep wheels off the carton wall to prevent point loading and seal with an H-tape pattern. Mark This Side Up.
- Unitize multiple boxes on a 48x40 pallet, centering the heavier pump end. Example: two 65 lb sprayers in 24x20x24 boxes, two straps each, full stretch-wrap with corner boards.
- On the BOL, state NMFC 130345, Class 92.5, description: Airless power-operated wheeled paint sprayer boxed. Review Note, item 130347 when shipping unusual accessories or tanks.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable rating: fixed Class 92.5 removes density math, speeding quotes and reducing reclass inspections.
- Lower claims risk: boxed, braced wheels and protected guns cut transit damage and hidden defect write-offs.
- Simpler compliance: cleaned units ship non-hazardous, avoiding hazmat surcharges and training overhead.
- Reliable budgeting: consistent class helps contractors, rental fleets, and OEMs forecast LTL costs across lanes.
