How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Disassemble tow arms or hitch tubes and bag small hardware; strap the frame and hopper to a 40x48 pallet with edge protectors to prevent tube crush.
- Shield brushes and wheels from abrasion with corrugated sleeves or foam; add blocking so casters cannot roll during transit.
- If the hopper is fabric, fold it neatly and place in a poly bag; keep sharp rake bars covered to avoid snags and punctures.
- For oversized sweep widths (e.g., 42–52 in), orient diagonally on the pallet or crate and cap open tubing to protect powder coat from banding damage.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Lower damage claims by stabilizing rotating parts and protecting hopper fabric, reducing replacement and delay costs.
- Reduce freight spend by packing compactly and keeping height stackable, improving cube efficiency on LTL lanes.
- Faster quotes and booking with a clear NMFC reference and precise packaging notes, minimizing reclass or inspection delays.
- Simplified receiving: labeled hardware kits and protected brush assemblies speed assembly and customer readiness on delivery.
