How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Verify the correct class within 70-100 based on the NMFC sub-item your felt matches (e.g., endless belt vs pad, material type) and list it clearly on the BOL.
- Roll and box properly: coil endless belts to a large diameter to avoid creases, poly-bag, cap the ends, add edge guards, then place into a rigid box.
- Control moisture and contamination: include desiccant, seal the box, and mark Keep Dry/Clean and Do Not Crush; avoid placing heavy freight on top.
- Provide exact outside box dimensions and weight for quoting; select a box that prevents compression while staying within LTL size limits.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Accurate selection between class 70-100 drives lower LTL rates and prevents costly reclassification fees.
- Boxed, protected felts reduce surface damage that can affect shrink uniformity, cutting claims and production scrap on finishing lines.
- Clean, dry packaging keeps felts line-ready, minimizing emergency replacements and downtime for denim and knit finishing operations.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and speeds tendering, improving on-time delivery and negotiated freight rates.
