How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pick cartons for small finished frames; choose a plywood crate with internal blocking for larger assemblies to prevent racking and bent mounting ears.
- Pad edges and heddle support bars with foam or corrugated, add corner protectors, and use desiccant or VCI wrap on carbon steel to combat corrosion.
- Band or bolt the box/crate to a pallet, keep the center of gravity low, and mark orientation and no-fork zones to protect alignment-critical parts.
- Print NMFC 131260, Class 85 on the BOL and labels; list piece count and “loom harness frames—machinery parts” to avoid inspections and reclass delays.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 85 gives predictable quotes and minimizes surprise reclass fees versus density-rated freight.
- Crating and proper bracing reduce deformation and claim risk on precision textile machinery components.
- Palletized boxes/crates move faster across docks, cutting handling time and accessorial charges.
- Combining multiple frames with separators in one crate lowers cost per unit and optimizes space.
