How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List KD components on the BOL—auger flights, gearboxes, drive heads, and PTO shafts—and cap any hydraulic ports; pad or guard sharp flighting edges.
- Palletize or crate tightly: block and brace heavy gearboxes, add edge protectors along flights, then band and wrap to keep hardware kits from shifting.
- Mark Non-Hazardous and include NMFC 131710, Class 77.5 for quicker acceptance; note total package count and photograph the packed unit before pickup.
- For LTL, keep lengths within standard limits and avoid overhang; use spacers if stacking and request liftgate or forklift service when dock access is limited.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 77.5 removes density math, delivering faster quotes and reducing reclass charges on augers and diggers.
- Knocked-down packing lowers cube and damage risk, improving LTL rates and cutting claims tied to exposed flighting or gearboxes.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines tendering and avoids hazmat surcharges, training, and paperwork delays.
- Consistent classification across PTO and hydraulic auger kits standardizes pricing for dealers, rental fleets, and OEM shipments.
