How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Book at Class 65 and list packaging as boxes; include NMFC 132120 on the BOL for clear routing and rating.
- Pack in heavy-duty corrugated boxes with inner polybags or small bins to contain loose pins; keep cartons near 40–50 lb to prevent burst failures.
- Palletize for even weight distribution; spread cartons across the deck, add a top cap, then stretch-wrap and band to resist point-load compression.
- Label each carton “Steel Tread Pins” with piece counts and carton sequence; avoid mixed SKUs to speed receiving and reduce OS&D issues.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 65 minimizes reclass exposure and stabilizes LTL rates.
- Dense steel pins maximize cube efficiency, improving cost per pound on most lanes.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines paperwork and lowers accessorial risk.
- Durable boxing and secure pallet builds cut damage claims and protect OTIF and supplier scorecards.
