How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List NMFC 135760 on the BOL; since it is not density-based, skip PCF and focus on accurate piece count, total weight, and declared value.
- Wrap each item with soft tissue or jeweler’s paper, place in rigid inner cases with cut foam, then double-wall outer cartons sealed with tamper-evident tape; keep labels discreet (avoid the word “gold”).
- For many small boxes, use a master carton or a strapped, corner-boarded pallet with opaque stretch wrap; require adult signature and photo ID at delivery.
- Select carriers experienced in high-value handling; request appointment or limited-access service for boutiques, vaults, or trade shows, and align insurance with the declared value.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Accurate NMFC usage reduces reclass and rebill risk, preserving quoted LTL rates.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and avoids hazmat surcharges.
- Discreet, protective packaging lowers theft and damage exposure, cutting claims and delays.
- Consolidating small cases into one pallet minimizes handling touches and can reduce minimum charge impacts.
