Classification Details

NMFC Description Class
13792.00 Trusses, or Sections thereof, see Note, item 13793:

Notes

Note 13793: NOTE-Applies on trusses or sections thereof of open framework- or latticework-type construction, including ground towers, designed for lighting, staging, exhibits, displays, or other temporary or permanent applications, with or without hardware necessary for assembly or installation.

How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Confirm the exact class by checking NMFC Note item 13793 and cite it on the BOL to prevent reclass disputes.
  2. Bundle aluminum truss sections with non‑marring straps, add spacer dunnage, and cap ends; keep chords clear of fork tines to avoid cosmetic damage.
  3. Use A‑frame or pipe racks for long sticks (10–40 ft); flag overlength pieces and choose LTL vs volume/partial when overall length exceeds 96 inches.
  4. Record full dimensions including racks or pallets and photograph packaging before tendering to support accurate rating and claims defense.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Note‑driven classification minimizes billing corrections and keeps freight rates predictable across lanes and carriers.
  • Damage‑reducing bundles and racks protect anodized or raw aluminum finishes, cutting claim costs and project delays.
  • Consolidating sections into standard bundles can qualify for LTL instead of flatbed, lowering total transportation spend.
  • Non‑hazard status streamlines carrier selection and pickup scheduling for construction sites, trade shows, and rental returns.
