How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Use heavy-duty boxes or wood crates with inner dividers; wrap stacks of steel links in VCI paper to resist corrosion during transit.
- Band links into manageable coils (e.g., 25–50 links per bundle) to prevent tangling; palletize and strap each box/crate with corner boards for stability.
- Mark the BOL and labels: “Empty Steel Cartridge Clips/Ammunition Links — NMFC 145900, Class 85”; include piece count and total weight for quick check-in.
- Keep parts separate from live ammunition and primers; arrange pickup and delivery appointments for secure facilities and share on-site contact details.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

- Non-hazardous status avoids hazmat fees and expands carrier options.
