How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Put NMFC 146510 and Class 92.5 on the BOL, described as “Aerial Delivery Platforms with Harness/Lashings,” and note if shipping loose or in packages.
- Bundle or bag all harnesses and lashings to prevent snagging; cap hooks and rings, use edge protection, and band the platform to a skid if shipping loose.
- If packaged, crate or palletize with zero overhang; block and brace inside the crate and mark “Do Not Lift by Harness” and “No Stack on Hardware.”
- Class is fixed (not density-based), but still record true dimensions including protruding tie-down points; request non-stack handling if hardware stands proud.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing at Class 92.5 reduces reclass risk and keeps LTL quotes consistent across lanes.
- Non-hazardous status eliminates hazmat surcharges and specialized paperwork, lowering total landed cost.
- Flexible prep—loose or packaged—speeds deployments and trims labor for defense and aerospace logistics teams.
- Correct bundling of harness/lashings cuts damage claims and dock delays, improving cycle time and asset readiness.
