How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Rate and tender at Class 100 and list NMFC 147690 on the BOL. Specify packaging as boxes and include a manifest calling out boats, treadways, siderails, and paddles.
- Nest assault boats in the same orientation within each box. Pad metal treadways and siderails with edge guards and VCI paper to prevent abrasion and corrosion during cross-dock handling.
- Unitize: strap and wrap boxed components to a 48×40 heat‑treated pallet; apply 360° stretch wrap and corner protectors. Example: two boat cartons plus one component box per pallet, under 72 inches tall.
- Plan site delivery: request liftgate or forklift as needed. Verify the longest box length against trailer door width, and share packaging photos to avoid reweigh or reclass.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 delivers predictable LTL pricing, simplifying budgeting for training exercises and base-to-site moves.
- Non-hazardous status shortens tendering and reduces paperwork-related accessorials, keeping transit timelines tighter.
- Nesting boats and boxing accessories cut cubic footprint and damage risk, lowering claims and OS&D delays.
- Precise NMFC mapping (147690) reduces reclass penalties and dispute time, speeding acceptance at military and contractor facilities.
