How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Note “NMFC 154630 – Exhibition Paraphernalia/Booths – Class 125” on the BOL to prevent reclass and speed terminal handling.
- Ship booths or stalls knocked down (KD) in rigid boxes or wood crates. Block and brace modular panels, wrap edges, and bag small fittings and lighting inside labeled inner cartons.
- Consolidate the exhibit kit into a single crate when possible and include a packing list with show name, booth number, and case ID to streamline marshalling yard and drayage processing.
- Use a pallet matched to the crate footprint, add corner protectors and steel/plastic banding, and mark “This Side Up” and “Time-Critical Show Delivery.” Book guaranteed LTL windows for move-in days.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 125 eliminates density surprises, giving accurate LTL quotes and predictable budgeting for show schedules.
- Correct NMFC use reduces costly reclass and inspection fees versus misrating displays as furniture or fixtures.
- Crated, KD shipments move faster through advance warehouses and marshalling yards, lowering detention risk and claim exposure.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and helps secure competitive lanes during peak event seasons.
