How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack wooden panels flat in sturdy cartons or tight bundles; separate any loose metal hardware in inner boxes to prevent scuffs and dents, and add edge protectors.
- Palletize multiple cartons with no overhang, then band and stretch-wrap; post “Panels—Do Not Fork Through” labels to keep forklift tines out of bundles.
- Write “Parts, NOI—wooden store display rack panels” with NMFC 154675 and Class 70 on the BOL; include carton count and hardware piece list for receiving.
- For store resets or rollouts, pre-kit each location’s panel set and print carton IDs (aisle/bay) so installers can stage quickly at delivery.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable rating with fixed Class 70—no density math, faster quoting, and fewer reclass disputes.
- Lower damage risk and claim costs when hardware is isolated and panel edges are protected.
- Pre-kitted panel sets cut install time on site, improving labor utilization during store remodels.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines carrier acceptance and simplifies LTL consolidation across multiple store shipments.
