How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- On the BOL, write: “Laminates, sheets in rolls, boxed — NMFC 156905, Class 125,” plus piece count and weight; no density needed.
- Package each roll in a rigid box with core plugs, edge guards, and a moisture barrier to prevent telescoping, kinks, or scuffing.
- Palletize boxed rolls without overhang; use corner boards, two straps minimum, and stretch wrap; mark arrows for roll orientation.
- If construction is atypical (e.g., multi-material laminates or extra brittle films), confirm it fits the laminate note (item 156902) before tendering.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 125 simplifies rating and quoting, reducing reclass fees and post-audit surprises.
- Boxed-roll packaging lowers damage risk, keeping claim ratios down for print, flooring, and surfacing suppliers.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and shortens transit in standard LTL networks.
- Clear BOL language speeds dock handling and helps you hit target freight budgets on recurring shipments.
