How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Crate or heavy-duty box the KD set: isolate slate slabs with foam and edge protectors, cross-brace to stop shifting, and apply Do Not Stack labels.
- Pack rails, legs, and hardware in inner cartons, then secure to a pallet under the main crate; mark center of gravity and This Side Up to protect the slate.
- Book LTL at Class 85 using NMFC 15770 and state packaging as box or crate; add accessorials like liftgate and two-man delivery if no dock is available.
- Keep slate flat and centered on a skid, band with steel or poly strap, add shock/tilt indicators, and wrap for moisture control during long hauls.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 85 rating streamlines quoting and eliminates density calculations, speeding up rate shopping.
- Accurate use of NMFC 15770 reduces reclass fees, inspections, and billing disputes for high-value gaming tables.
- Proper crating of slate lowers damage risk and claim costs, protecting margins on premium pool tables.
- Proactive accessorial planning (liftgate, residential, inside) avoids surprise charges and delivery delays.
