NMFC 168180 – Railway Track Bolts, Nuts, Washers | Class 50

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

1. Pack dense iron/steel fasteners in sturdy cartons or sealed pails; bag small washers and nuts so counts stay intact and threads don’t abrade in transit.
2. Palletize smartly: keep cartons low and tight, add edge protectors, then band and stretch-wrap. Example: 48×40 pallet with 3/4 in. track bolts boxed at 50–60 lb each.
3. Mark each package with size, grade, and piece count (e.g., 7/8-9 UNC, 100 pcs). This speeds rail yard receiving and reduces mispicks.
4. Book as NMFC 168180, Class 50, packaged only. Avoid loose kegs or bulk bins since this classification requires shipments be in packages.
