Notes

Note 172528: NOTE-Shipper must certify on shipping orders and bills of lading at time of shipment that density is 6 pounds or greater per cubic foot and actual value does not exceed $6.00 per pound. If shipper fails to so certify density and actual value, item 182130, naming 'Tents or Canopies, NOI,' will apply.

How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Confirm density at 6+ pcf to retain Class 110. Example: 300 lb over 40 cu ft = 7.5 pcf. Record weight and cube for the bill of lading.
  2. Use Package 2527: band metal-framed panels together, bag and box hardware, pad tubular rafters, and wrap fabric/vinyl roofs to prevent scuffing.
  3. Palletize long panels on a custom-length skid; add edge guards and stretch-wrap. Mark fork entry points to avoid puncturing screens or roof rolls.
  4. Declare actual value ≤ $6/lb. If the kit’s value exceeds this, expect a different rating; review Note, item 172528, and arrange added cargo insurance if needed.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Predictable Class 110 rating for kits at 6+ pcf speeds quoting and reduces reclass risk.
  • Package 2527 standards lower handling damage on metal frames, roof fabric, and tubular rafters, cutting claims costs.
  • Value cap alignment simplifies liability planning and helps match insurance to true exposure.
  • Seasonal rollouts benefit from LTL efficiency—cleaner accessorial planning for residential or jobsite delivery.
