How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Choose the “packages” option and protect the slide shell with foam wrap, edge guards, and stretch film; bag and secure ladders, legs, and fittings inside the package and label as hardware enclosed.
- For long or curved slides, bolt or strap the carton/crate to an extra‑long pallet to prevent flex and overhang; use at least two heavy nylon straps and block the nose and tail.
- Tender at fixed Class 300 per NMFC 17350. Density isn’t required, but list overall length, width, and height so carriers plan space and apply any long‑freight rules correctly.
- Schedule accessorials common to pool deliveries: residential, appointment, liftgate, or limited access. Add “Do Not Stack” cones if the shell could deform under top load.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable Class 300 rating reduces reclasses and surprise invoices, improving quote accuracy for dealers and backyard installers.
- Single NMFC covers slides with bracing, ladders, and fittings, simplifying BOLs and allowing bundled shipments under one line item.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and avoids hazmat fees, speeding transit and minimizing administrative overhead.
- Proper crating/palletizing protects glossy plastic or fiberglass surfaces, lowering claims and supporting better long-term LTL rates.
