How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack fixtures in sturdy corrugated boxes with partitions; bag small parts (screws, pins) and fill voids to prevent rattling and abrasion.
- Print NMFC 174070 and Class 70 on the BOL and carton labels to avoid reclass fees; describe as “Shade Roller Fixtures, in boxes.”
- Palletize with corner boards and stretch wrap; use plastic banding to avoid crushing thin brackets and keep cartons flush—no overhang.
- If shipping with fabric rolls or tubes, segregate fixtures on their own pallet and maintain the “boxes” packaging type to match the classification.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 70 rating delivers predictable LTL quotes versus density-based surprises.
- Boxed packaging reduces metal-on-metal damage, cutting claims and reship costs.
- Accurate NMFC on the BOL speeds carrier acceptance and minimizes inspections or reclass.
- Non-hazmat status avoids surcharges and simplifies routing across standard LTL networks.
