How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Ship units knock-down (KD) and boxed to meet the listing. Assembled furniture can trigger reclass or damage risk; keep legs, shelves, and hardware separated inside the carton.
- Note the materials and description on the BOL: “NMFC 178715 – Stands/Tables for media equipment, metal or metal+wood, KD, in boxes, Class 92.5.” Include piece count and pallet details for planning.
- Palletize without overhang; use corner boards, stretch wrap, and at least two straps. Add a top cap if stacking multiple boxed TV stands for a retail or hotel rollout.
- Protect rub points: wrap metal edges, bag loose fasteners, and secure instruction sheets to an interior panel so receivers can confirm KD contents quickly.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable rating at Class 92.5 reduces reclass fees and speeds quoting across LTL carriers.
- KD boxed format lowers cube versus assembled furniture and cuts damage claims on delicate surfaces and finishes.
- Single listing covers metal or mixed-material (metal + wood/other) constructions, simplifying SKU mapping and documentation.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier acceptance and keeps accessorials focused on handling, not compliance.
