Note 179322: NOTE-Sterilizers, other than cabinet type, weighing 2,000 pounds or more, may be shipped on skids, provided motors, gauges, valves and other accessories are protected by boxing and crating.
How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm the sterilizer type and condition (tabletop autoclave, floor model, dry-heat unit) and remove loose trays, hoses, and power cords; bag and secure accessories inside the same box or crate.
- Drain and dry the chamber and lines, then protect gauges, valves, and control panels with corner guards and foam. Add Tip-N-Tell and Keep Upright labels when crating.
- Choose packaging that matches the unit’s size: double-walled box with foam-in-place for small benchtop units, or a bolted skid with a fully enclosed crate for floor-standing equipment.
- Provide accurate dims and weight and note access needs (liftgate, inside delivery, call-ahead) for clinics or labs. Request limited liability coverage or cargo insurance for high-value models.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
