How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List NMFC 182410 and Class 65 on the BOL, specify packaging as boxes, and note contents (tile, mirrors, glass). Add “Fragile” and “This Side Up” labels.
- Use double‑wall boxes with foam corner guards, rigid backers for mirrors, and interleave sheets between glass surfaces. Keep at least 2 inches of edge and face cushioning.
- Palletize upright with no overhang. Strap and stretch‑wrap tightly, add edge boards, and use a top cap or cones if you need a no‑stack instruction.
- Reduce handling shocks with tilt/shock indicators and choose carriers with strong fragile‑goods performance. Request liftgate, residential, or inside delivery as needed.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing: fixed Class 65 means no density calculation, reducing reclass risk and surprise adjustments.
- Fewer claims and breakage when boxed and braced correctly, lowering total landed cost and improving customer satisfaction.
- Operational simplicity: one classification covers boxed tile, mirrors, and glass, enabling mixed-SKU consolidation on the same LTL.
- Non-hazmat status broadens carrier options and accelerates booking for time-sensitive construction and renovation projects.
