How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm the product fits: facing tile or molding of brick or stone mounted to fiberboard or pulpboard, shipped as packaged units—not loose tiles.
- Package securely: interleave foam or kraft, add edge guards, and box or bundle boards as tight packages. Then palletize without overhang and strap firmly.
- Mark and document: label “Facing Panels—Do Not Lay Flat,” list piece counts per package, and put “NMFC 182690, Class 60, Non-Haz” on the BOL.
- Protect from moisture and impact: use slip sheets to keep forklift tines off edges, stretch-wrap the stack, and photograph packaging before pickup for claim support.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable Class 60 rating reduces reclass fees and dispute risk, improving invoice accuracy.
- Single NMFC for mounted veneers speeds quoting and TMS setup, shortening time-to-book.
- Package-based handling minimizes breakage compared to loose stone or tile, lowering damage costs.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and avoids hazmat surcharges or paperwork.
