How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Quote and book at Class 100 for all decorated art tile or molding packed in boxes; density does not change the class for this item.
- Confirm your product fits the definition in Note, item 182666 (e.g., decorative finishes, trims, accent pieces) before tendering the freight.
- Use rigid boxes with foam-faced dividers or edge/corner guards so printed, glazed, or embossed surfaces don’t scuff; keep faces from touching.
- Palletize boxed sets tight to the pallet footprint, add a top cap, and strap or stretch-wrap; mark Fragile and This Side Up for molded trims and accent tiles.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable rating: a single Class 100 eliminates density disputes and reclass charges on decorative tiles and trim moldings.
- Lower claims risk when boxed properly, protecting high-value finishes like glazed ceramics, stone inlays, or resin ornamentation.
- Faster quoting across LTL carriers and TMS platforms since packaging is defined (boxes) and the item is non-hazardous.
- Supports project-based shipping for showrooms and contractors—easier to cost out sample kits, accent runs, and replacement pieces.
