How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Secure the spindle and moving components with transport locks or zip ties, then strap the balancer upright to a pallet to prevent tipping.
- Pack cones, collets, and adapters separately in a labeled parts box; use foam or dividers so small tooling doesn’t shift in transit.
- If shipping an electronic balancer, cushion the control head and display with dense foam and corner protection; avoid pressure on sensor areas.
- Choose sturdy packaging for smaller bench-top units: double-wall carton with 2 inches of padding on all sides, then place on a pallet for LTL.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Accurate NMFC identification reduces reclass disputes and keeps freight rates predictable for service centers and tire shops.
- Non-hazardous status avoids hazmat surcharges, trimming total landed cost for both new equipment and refurbished balancers.
- Proper crating and palletizing cut damage risk to sensitive spindles and electronics, lowering claims and downtime.
- Clear item naming allows easier consolidation with other shop tools, helping optimize LTL space and access better tiered pricing.
