How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Reference Item 18416 notes to pick the correct subclass—note if the bumper has hitch plates, step plates, or integrated lighting, and whether it’s steel, aluminum, or plastic.
- Pack to protect long, curved surfaces: foam wrap and edge guards on chrome, cap protruding brackets, then strap to a bumper rack or extended pallet with vertical support to prevent flex.
- Measure end-to-end including flanges, tow hooks, and mounts; list each piece count on the BOL and photograph condition before tendering for easier claims.
- Mark Do Not Stack and Face Protection on labels, add NMFC 18415 to documents, and choose residential or limited-access accessorials for delivery to body shops.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
