Classification Details

NMFC Description Class
185990.00 Sieves, wood rim, or riddles, metal or wood rim:

How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Nest sieves rim-to-rim with a corrugated pad between faces, then strap around the rims (not across the mesh) to a pallet. Example: 18" wood-rim sieves, 5-high stacks, two perimeter straps.
  2. For single shipments, use double-wall cartons with edge guards and a rigid insert protecting the screen. Pack vertical and label “Do Not Stack on Face.”
  3. For large riddles (24–36 in.), pair face-to-face, tie with soft strap, add corner posts, and stretch-wrap securely to avoid mesh abrasion during cross-dock handling.
  4. On the BOL, write “Sieves, wood rim, or riddles—metal or wood rim—NMFC 185990, non-hazardous,” and include piece count, pallet count, and dimensions for clean rating.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

  • Clear BOL descriptions speed terminal handling, reducing delays and accessorial risk for time-sensitive jobsites.
