How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. For horse‑drawn carts, bundle the shafts/tongue to the frame, chock the wheels with wood blocks, and strap the axle to a pallet or skid using two 2-inch bands.
  2. For trailer versions, seat the coupler onto a pallet-mounted hitch ball or cradle, lock the latch, cross-strap the drawbar, and engage any parking brake.
  3. Pad and protect gates, spreader blades, and control levers with foam and edge guards; band a labeled small-parts box (pins, bolts) to the deck.
  4. If shipping used gear, scrape cured concrete and drain rinse water; wrap dirty zones to prevent staining other freight and avoid cleaning fees.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Fixed Class 100 eliminates density debates, enabling fast, predictable quotes and reducing reclass risk.
  • Non-hazardous equipment faces fewer acceptance hurdles and lower surcharge exposure across LTL networks.
  • Shipping assembled preserves alignment of axles, couplers, and blades, cutting setup time at the jobsite.
  • Proper blocking and palletization minimize damage to frames and running gear, protecting resale and uptime.
