How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Use NMFC 189080 on the BOL for farm carts, horse‑drawn trucks, trailers, or wagons shipped KD, with or without bodies. Mark “KD” and list included components.
- Pack frames and body panels flat on skids. Band securely with edge guards on tongues, drawbars, and sideboards; bag loose hardware and label clearly.
- Remove wheels/axles when possible to cut cube; crate hubs and brackets separately. Example: stack two wagon frames on a 96x48 pallet with body panels in a strapped crate.
- Tender at Class 85—no density needed. Request liftgate, tarp, or rural access when shipping to farms or field locations to avoid delays.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 85 provides predictable LTL pricing and reduces reclass risk from density disputes.
- KD condition lowers dimensional footprint, improving stackability and cutting total freight spend.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines carrier acceptance and minimizes compliance-driven accessorials.
- One code covers carts, wagons, and farm trailers (non-powered), enabling efficient consolidation when descriptions match.
