How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Prepare display cars for transit: drain fuel and oils, remove battery if installed, secure trim and steering, and chock wheels before covering.
- Meet packaging spec: fully cover the vehicle with triplewall corrugated fiberboard, add edge protectors, then band the unit to a solid skid base with two-way forklift access.
- Block and brace on the skid: use wheel chocks and soft straps through frame points, add non-stack cones, and photograph the packed unit for claims protection.
- On the BOL, list NMFC 190215, Class 200, and “Not for Highway Use”; request liftgate or residential delivery for museums, showrooms, or event venues.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable rating: fixed Class 200 eliminates density disputes and reduces costly reclass fees for small replica vehicles.
- Lower damage risk: the triplewall cover and skid base requirement decreases handling impacts and insurance claims on high-visibility show pieces.
- Operational efficiency: skid-mounted units load by forklift, avoiding specialty vehicle carriers while expanding LTL carrier options.
- Faster quoting and tendering: a single, non-hazardous classification speeds rates, approvals, and transit planning for events and exhibitions.
