How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Use the BOL description: “Bodies, amusement car, plastic, boxed — NMFC 191160, Class 300, non-haz.” Include piece count and pallet count if palletized.
- Pack each molded shell in a rigid corrugated box with foam-in-place or custom inserts. Reinforce edges, wheel wells, and mounting points to prevent flex cracking.
- Keep boxes upright and avoid top-load. If palletizing, strap and stretch-wrap the cartons; add corner protectors and a “Do Not Stack” cone for thin-walled shells.
- Stick with boxes to retain this classification. Shipping loose, crated, or blanket-wrapped may trigger a different NMFC and unexpected reclass charges.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing: fixed Class 300 means no density calculation, streamlining quotes for OEMs, ride refurbishers, and FEC operators.
- Lower reclass risk by matching the packaging requirement (boxed), reducing carrier disputes, inspections, and surprise fees.
- Faster carrier acceptance: non-hazardous plastic parts simplify paperwork and broaden LTL carrier options during peak seasons.
- Damage mitigation guidance tailored to large molded shells cuts claim frequency and preserves finish quality on bumper car or go-kart bodies.
